History

1926

The CIATF is formed by 10 national associations to create a non-commercial enironment for Foundries from around the world to participate together and improve the technology of the production process. The first World Foundry Congress is held in Paris.

1960

By 1960 the membership had grown to 22 Countries and the World Foundry Congress had been held every year except during the european conflict

1980

By 1980 the membership had grown by another 12 countries and the General Secretary was now Jurg Gerster of Switzerland.

2000

The membership was now standing at a consistent 3 countries and despite the geo-political changes with the break up of Russia and Czechoslovakia and the change in host nations the organisation changed its name to the World Foundry Organization, to better reperesent the global assets of the industry. Jurg Gerster retired and Andrew Turner from the United Kingdom took over as General Secretary. Bringing the secreatraiat back to the UK where it all began in 1926.

2023

The time was upon the organisation to change again with the retirement of Andrew Turner and the appointment of José Javier Gonzalez from Spain as the new General Secretary. Many significant changes had occurred during the last 23 years including the change to a 2 year Presidency and the introduction of a many new outputs from the WFO, including the Global Foundry Report and the World Foundry Summit, the Davos of the global castings industry.
